Late last year João Silva, the co-author and subject of The Bang Bang Club, stepped on a mine while accompanying American soldiers patrolling an area near the town of Arghandab in southern Afghanistan. Despite immediate help from medics, both his legs were lost below the knees. A fund has been set up to support his recovery. Please consider buying a print or making a donation. It is through the bravery of photojournalists like João that the rest of us can into darkest corners of the world.
